Vacations are the perfect escape from our daily grind of work, chores and honey-do lists. This is doubly true of family-friendly, all-inclusive destinations where entertainment, food, fun and shopping share the same roof.

At Shelton’s Little Creek Casino Resort, you will find nearly a dozen dining options, table games, slots, bingo, concerts, a cigar and wine lounge and so much more. All this, mere minutes from Olympia, make it a favorite year-round getaway for the day or the weekend.

If your stay includes an overnight (or two!), take a minute to enjoy their newly spruced up rooms in resort tower one. As the older of the two towers, this six-month renovation was completed at the end of spring 2017 for full summer availability.

Bob Pearsall, Project Manager, explains that “this wasn’t just a facelift, we really stepped it up.” All plumbing was inspected and replacements made as needed throughout, fixtures moved to create additional space within rooms, and bathrooms were expanded with larger showers added.

Lobby space on each floor was converted into new family suites with jetted soaker tubs, an electric fireplace, additional half bathroom in the living area, a 55-inch LED television, mini refrigerator, high speed wi-fi and plenty of USB ports.

Once the construction side of things wrapped up—with thankfully nothing out of the ordinary found, says Pearsall—beautification could begin. “We spruced it all up: wallpaper and paint, headboards, granite accents” and more, he says.

Director of Hotel Operations Barbara Davis is also excited about the project. “We made a concerted effort to address accessibility and upgrade everything from the inside out.” Rooms now include charging USB ports built into the lamps, available desk space for working, a dedicated coffee nook in each room and more modern and relaxing colors, carpet and artwork.

Many of these upgrades reflect the Squaxin Island Tribe and their vital, vibrant role in the region. Davis is proud that “we incorporated everything we could from our tribe. As the People of the Water, there is a water feel to the carpet patterns and Native artwork will be returning to the walls soon in updated frames.” Even the elegantly simple design painted above the bed reflects the Native canoe journey.

Much of the art displayed resort-wide comes from the nearby tribally funded Squaxin Island Museum. The museum is a must see when visiting the area. With exhibits showcasing the beauty and history of the Squaxin Tribe, the displays and tours are perfect for all ages. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday. Be sure to check the site for specific hours.

The resort also hosts a variety of fundraising events with its resident master sommelier and at the on-site Salish Cliffs Golf Club to keep the Museum a thriving center of Native history, art, and culture.

While visiting, make time to visit the Seven Inlets Spa for a scrub, facial, cut or color. Prefer your sunny days outdoors? The Salish Cliffs Golf Club covers more than 300 acres of Northwest landscaping and stunning views. You don’t have to be toting a golf bag to enjoy the award-winning course and all it has to offer.

For those bringing along the entire family, the resort and RV Park is pet-friendly. Inquire when booking for special accommodations. In addition, the kids will love the heated indoor swimming pool and oversized hot-tub, perfect in any season. For the gamers in your family, who are under-aged for the casino floor, the Gaming Arcade Center features XBOX 360 systems and games for all ages ranging from Madden 16 to Minecraft to Gears of War – there is something for everyone.

Finish out your day by hitting the gaming floor before dining at their array decadent restaurants including everything from a buffet to an elegant seafood experience. Be sure to join the Player’s Club before visiting to start earning benefits like pre-sale event tickets, exclusive VIP parking, and discounts at the gift shop, spa, and golf club.
