360 Chiropractic, P.S. in Lacey is the only chiropractic office in the Pacific Northwest to have the new, FDA-approved, non-invasive Erchonia FX 635 class II cold laser. This laser is proven to help alleviate the pain caused by plantar fasciitis in just three weeks with no side effects. The FX 635 received FDA-clearance based on a double-blind, randomized, multi-site and placebo-controlled clinical trial. Almost all patients treated with the laser noted a dramatic reduction in pain and an improvement in function. It’s the next level in treatment for soft tissue damage and can help patients take the pain out of their step.

“Plantar fasciitis can be extremely painful and persistent,” says Dr. George Olar, who owns 360 Chiropractic with his wife, Dr. Stefanie Olar. “It can change the way you live your life, it’s inhibiting. But, in just three weeks with two laser treatments per week, patients can have significant and lasting relief from plantar fasciitis.”

Plantar fasciitis is caused by prolonged walking (whether for exercise or part of a job) or standing (such as a factory worker), wearing heels, running, etc.

Fast, Safe Relief

There are a lot of lasers on the market focused on different functions, but the FX 635 is different because Erchonia does not believe you need to damage the tissue to repair the tissue, explains Christine, business manager and laser specialist for 360 Chiropractic. “While that method does work, if you are older or have a comprised immune system, your body may not regenerate, even with stimulation. The nice thing about our laser is it either works or it doesn’t, but it’s not damaging anything.”

Cold lasers work through bio-stimulation. It stimulates cell regeneration and communication, meaning damaged cells are repaired quicker, new cells are grown faster and inflammation is decreased. It also increases blood flow, thereby increasing oxygen to the cells. This all leads to less pain for the patient.

“The regenerative properties of the laser are incredible and even more so because it’s non-evasive,” says Dr. George. “It can even help alleviate the possibility of surgery.”

Dr. George adds that the laser helps the central nervous system have better communication with surrounding tissues so they will function better as you move around.

Laser therapy offers quick results. “Most people see the largest increase of improvement between their second and third treatment,” says Christine. Most cases only require three to six treatments, depending on the exact injury. For example, a bulged disc is going to take a few more than strained muscles. For plantar fasciitis, the standard is six treatments within three weeks.

The effects of the cold laser are permanent, until the next injury of course. If you are constantly wearing heels, for example, you may have chronic pain that will need to be followed up with later on. “Once you’ve injured an area, your body reacts much quicker to a new one,” Christine explains. “For example I sprained my ankle fifteen years ago and every time I tweak it, boy do I feel it, more than I do the other one. Every situation is different as well, depending on the person and how their body heals.”

Lasting Effects without Surgery

For patients with chronic re-injury or inflammation, they may need maintenance periodically, either chiropractic work and/or laser therapy. “But, we have a lot of patients who have not had to come back and have avoided a lot of surgeries,” Dr. George adds.

For those who have had surgery, the cold laser can also help speed healing post-operation. “We receive a lot of referrals from post-op patients,” he continues. “The laser can even help speed up the physical therapy process. We have one patient who met her physical therapy four-week goals in just two weeks.”

360 Chiropractic takes most insurance, workers compensation, as well as self-pay patients. Cold laser treatments are surprisingly reasonable, and far less than the cost of surgery. “We are focused on patient improvement and are excited to be able to give patients an affordable treatment that will get them feeling better quickly,” says George. “We are getting busier and busier with all the referrals from patients, doctors and physical therapists who have seen what the FX 635 laser can do.”
