The Port of Olympia was awarded the 2017 Government Thurston Green Business of the Year Award on Wednesday by the Thurston Chamber of Commerce Thurston Green Business Program.

The Port of Olympia has a unique opportunity to demonstrate leadership in environmental initiatives and programs. From implementing recycling in all our offices and installing low flow toilets at Swantown Marina, to working with partners on remediating Budd Inlet and developing a Tumwater Habitat Conservation Plan, the Port recognizes the importance of environmental stewardship. The Port of Olympia strives to in identify and implement environmentally responsible and sustainable practices in a manner that is consistent with the our mission of connecting Thurston County to the world by land, air and sea.

Rachael Jamison, Director of Environmental Programs stated, “My personal goal is that within the next two to five years, the Port of Olympia is looked to as one of the most sustainable mid-sized ports in the country. We do a tremendous amount of work for the environment. We are working to inform our community of all the ways we are improving Thurston County.”

This recognition is a great example of the Port’s commitment to creating resiliency through Environmental Stewardship, Economic Development and management of Community Assets.
