Powerline repairs predicted to affect the Interstate 5 morning commute today, February 9, in Olympia did not occur as scheduled due to equipment issues. The work and associated closures are now scheduled to occur tonight and extend into Friday morning’s peak commute.

Motorists on both northbound I-5 and US 101 at I-5 are advised to plan extra time to reach their destinations Friday morning, Feb. 10. Lane and ramp closures needed to accommodate the work are scheduled as follows:

Updated schedule

9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, to noon Friday, Feb. 10

  • One lane of northbound I-5 near US 101 in Tumwater will close, reducing the northbound direction to two lanes.
  • Southbound US 101 ramp to northbound I-5 in Olympia will be reduced to one lane.
  • Deschutes Way on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close. During the closure, drivers will need to use alternative routes.

10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9

The Henderson Boulevard/14th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close until 5 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10.

Intermittent rolling slowdowns that will delay traffic up to 30 minutes on northbound and southbound I-5 and the southbound US 101 ramp to northbound I-5 will also occur as needed during the closure hours.

Utility crews will be on-site to repair and replace power lines damaged during recent winter weather.
