Life is good at the Hawks Prairie Casino. You’ll find thoughtfully inspired meals at great prices, tantalizing cocktails and breakfast at one o’clock in the morning (or any other time you want). Maybe you’d like a seat at a friendly gaming table. It’s worth your time to stop in and discover what’s inside.

To satisfy your hunger, connect with newly appointed Executive Chef Meandy Moeun. Customers are eating up his tasty pork Bánh mì sandwiches as fast as they come out of the kitchen. Chef Meandy has been wielding knives and whipping up sauces for seven years at the Hawks Prairie Casino, but only three months ago stepped up to the position of Executive Chef.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” says Moeun. “I really enjoy my job.” He acknowledges his whole crew is an “all-star team” working well together. Both line cooks working the afternoon I visited, Daniel Mason and A.J. Hodges, echoed Moeun’s sentiment. Their set schedules and various job benefits, not always included in other places, are appreciated.

Chef Meandy manages six different menus at Hawks Prairie Casino. One is the monthly Fresh Sheet, featuring four varied plates from around the world. January features the popular Chinese-Korean Kkanpung Saeu, glazed fried shrimp with a sweet and sour sauce with wok-cooked vegetables. Maybe the crispy Thai chicken salad sounds good to you. The Fresh Sheet choices are tremendous values with prices ranging from $10 – $13.

The lighter appetite might be happy perusing the $5 menu. Served all day, these offerings run the gamut from chicken curry to meatballs and mushroom stroganoff. There’s also a full dining menu with a kid’s section and other choices in the bar. Military personnel receive a 20% discount on all food.

Of course, Hawks Prairie is also a casino. Many people come through the doors to play at one of the various gaming tables. During the months of October and November, customers had an extra incentive to play. For the twice-daily Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments, players received an additional $500 in gaming chips for bringing in three food items. Their abundant donations, which totaled over 7500 items, went to the Thurston County Food Bank. The drive was so well received it is happening again during February and March.

The casino’s community support goes beyond the food drives. It is the recipient of the 2016 US Army’s Regional Exceptional Contributions Award. The business has donated thousands of meals, and counting, to service members and their families at various local events.

The casino has launched a new text-messaging program that pays big benefits as well. Repeat customers will have offers for free meals, special drink prices and double match play to name a few. Whether you are a diner, drinker, card player or all three, you can cash in on your repeated visits. There is also a Players Club for the gamers. In addition, the casino offers the only big screen viewing for off-track betting in Thurston County.

2017 is the Chinese Year of the Rooster. On Friday January 27, Hawks Prairie Casino is celebrating in style with several talented musicians and a dance floor for the evening’s festivities. There will be unique menu items and great drink prices on Remy 1738, Remy VSOP, Hennessy VSOP and Heinekens. Join the party from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. All Players Club members will get a free lucky red envelope with a $2 bill starting at 8:30pm.
