Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington would like to invite the public to attend the BIG Brunch fundraiser, taking place Wednesday, January 25, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Hotel RL in Olympia. The event is free to attend, however a minimum donation of $100 per person would be greatly appreciated. Funds raised will go directly towards the professional support of the friendships between Bigs and Littles. To register to attend, please visit swwabigs.org/events/Big-Brunch.

The keynote speaker for the BIG Brunch is Laura van Dernoot Lipsky. Considered a “pioneer in the field of trauma exposure,” Laura is an accomplished author, Ted Talk speaker, and the founder and director of the Trauma Stewardship Institute in Seattle. She will speak on the many positive impacts mentors can have on children who have experienced trauma.

bb_91_resized“Every year I’m inspired by the generosity of the community to provide life changing friendships to kids who need them most. The event has grown so much over the years that we have had to change venues to accommodate all of the additional guests. I’m also very excited about the new time and twist as we have changed the event from a breakfast to brunch!” said Leslie Shahan, VP of Operations at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington.

Attendees will be treated to a delicious plated brunch and a touching video highlighting the story of a Thurston County match. The video from last year’s event can be watched on You Tube. The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington Community Partner of the Year will also be presented with an award.
