Paulie and Trish Girard, co-owners of Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli, have claimed for years that they are Olympia’s best-kept secret. This likely was true in the past. They quietly opened their new business about five years ago in an obscure location on Olympia’s eastside. And they simply have relied on word of mouth for recommendations about their location, food and pool leagues. Yet with recent awards and recognition at the Thurston County Fair, Best of Western Washington, and Toys for Tot donation site, their claim to fame as Olympia’s best-kept secret is being exposed.
On Saturday, November 26, Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli will be hosting its second annual Holiday Bazaar as a way to support local charities and crafts people.
“The Holiday Bazaar is just one way we feel we can give back to our local community while also providing a fun experience to customers and supporting local vendors. We are passionate about helping kids in our community, as they are our future. And it is important to us to support charities where we know the children in our very own community will be the recipients of the donations. We have been a drop off site for Toys for Tots the last couple of years and this year we are doing something different by combining opportunities with the Holiday Bazaar,” Trish explains.
Olympia Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, distributing toys to needy children. Stop in to Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli to make a donation. This year, in addition to being a donation site, they have increased their contribution. All the revenue from Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli on November 26, including the proceeds from the deli will be directly donated to Toys for Tots.
The November 26 Holiday Bazaar will be an extravaganza of nearly 20 local vendors showcasing hand made crafts, jewelry, fresh cut Christmas trees and wreaths, greeting cards, herbal remedies, clothing, children’s items and much more. Additionally, Trish will likely offer a beverage bar of coffee, cocoa and cookies while Miss Moffet’s Mystical Cupcakes will be onsite with delicious holiday samples. The Holiday Bazaar is an open house from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with many vendors will be offering giveaways and conducting raffles throughout the day.
“Whether through the Holiday Bazaar, donation site for Toys for Tots, or our delicious sandwiches, we are so humbled by the recent recognition of being selected as the third best sandwich shop in all of western Washington. This category includes sandwich shops throughout Seattle and Tacoma including chains and small shops like ours. We are in a tucked away location in Olympia with just one shop. This is a huge compliment to us and we are so thankful to our customers for appreciating us. Paulie and I are completely over the moon and still in a bit of shock,” Trish says.
For the last three years Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli has been recognized on the Best of Western Washington list, steadily inching up the list. Trish shared that they were hopeful to be recognized within the top ten this year but both she and Paulie were completely surprised to be within the top three.
“Maybe the long hours and hard work from being at the Thurston County Fair made us a local favorite. That local event was so much fun for us in getting out of the pool hall and seeing our community at the fair. Yet, it is a long time between eating one of our sandwiches at the end of summer fair and placing a vote with Best of Western Washington,” Trish says.
“We are so grateful for our customers,” she continues. “In fact, February will be our fifth anniversary. Stay tuned as Paulie and I announce our customer appreciation events to celebrate five years of business and our awesome customers. Not only do we enjoy giving back directly to our community but we also enjoy showing our customers how much they mean to us.”
