It appears that ThurstonTalk readers were hungry in July. Our top three most-read stories for the month all revolve around food. And, with our markets overflowing with fresh produce and the weather simply perfect for evening outings, it’s no wonder people are charmed by these foodie reads and restaurants. Take a peek and don’t miss #4 – my Editor’s Pick (it’s not about food!).

1. 6 Olympia Restaurants Serving Locally Sourced Food

Chef Mike Holbein prepares fresh, local food at Our Table. Mike and co-owner Brad Thompson frequently shop at farmers markets and partner with many local farms.

Living on the shores of Puget Sound in an area with a temperate, green climate, we are treated to a wide variety of nature’s bounty right within our county’s borders. Writer Stephanie McNelis lists six local eateries that gather their ingredients just outside their doorstep in this foodie favorite.

2. Rush In Dumplings

Writer Nikki McCoy took on the tasty task of trying out downtown Olympia’s newest restaurant, Rush In Dumplings, and she’s not disappointed.  The tiny spot on 4th Ave is getting rave reviews and is open late on the weekend for post-midnight munchies.

3. 6 Ice Cream Hot Spots in Thurston County

In another tasty assignment, Allyssa Ramsfield samples local sweet treats to beat the heat in this article about ice cream. And whether your a frozen yogurt shop fan or artisan hand-made gelato kind-of person, the article has a perfect shop for you.

4. Editor’s Pick: Natasha Olson’s Artwork

Jessica Hoppe’s story about OHS senior Natasha Olson and her mandala design was also popular this month. However I selected it not for it’s many reads, but for the example it shows of collaboration between neighbors and youth and the reminder of how something done simple to be beautiful can also be impactful and important.
