Most people love music – so much so that they buy it on-line and fill their iPod or phone with thousands of tunes. Others purchase CDs or increasingly, vinyl, and listen on their home stereo. So, where in Olympia can people gather to share their music, sample what others are listening to, and learn what’s new in the world of Hi-Fi? Up until now, it seems the answer was nowhere. This, however, is about to change.

Recent Seattle transplant Rudy Barreda is starting a new social group, Olympia Music Club, to fill this void in the Olympia music scene.

Sure, your music sounds ok on your phone and ear buds. But played on high quality audio equipment, you’re not just listening anymore – you’re a part of the music. Whether classic rock, jazz, hip-hop or pop, your music will sound amazing when heard on a great system. And your experience is enhanced by sharing this discovery with a group of friends, equally amazed at how good their music collection sounds.

To get the ball rolling, the folks at DescoAV are graciously hosting the club’s first meet up. Not only do they have the turntables and related equipment to make your vinyl sound awesome, but also their expertise in the art and science of sound reproduction will be on tap for club members to revel in.

As a bonus, folks who attend the first monthly meet ups will have the opportunity to help drive the club’s evolution. Music genre nights. Live performances. Auditioning a new piece of equipment at a member’s house. These options and more are activities members may want the club to adopt. Anything’s possible if it contributes to the club’s purpose – chilling to some good music with friends, old and new.

Olympia Music Club’s first meet up will be held on Thursday, July 14, at 7:00 p.m. at DescoAV, 2306 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia, WA 98502.
