Every family has their traditional Father’s Day gift, whether it’s a tie, cologne, or hand-made card. This year give dad what he really wants: a comfy place to relax and the chance to shake hands with a Seahawk’s player.
The Olympia Furniture and Sleep Company is not only the perfect spot to find recliners, mattresses, entertainment centers, and home accents, they also have a special place in every 12th Man’s heart. Thanks to an early donation to one of the team’s frequent charitable events, over the last three years five members of the team have dropped by for informal meet-and-greet autograph sessions.
This year offensive lineman Terry Poole will be visiting their 2302 Harrison Avenue NW store on Sunday, June 19 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Held in conjunction with a food drive benefitting the Lacey Parks and Recreation Summer Lunch Program, store owner Eddie Nelson encourages visitors to “bring your father and meet a Seahawk” for Father’s Day.
While a non-perishable donation isn’t required for autograph-seekers, Nelson encourages attendees to help out a program that benefits school-aged children with free lunches all summer long. The Olympia Furniture Company team give back as often as they can by participating in local events with Toys for Tots or backpack and clothing drives for the Little Red Schoolhouse.
When visiting, wander the store’s recently expanded mattress gallery that now carries five major mattress brands. This expansion is reflected in their name as well, which is now ‘The Olympia Furniture and Sleep Company.’
Looking for more Father’s Day weekend Seahawks fun? Several members of the team will be in town on Saturday, June 18 playing in a celebrity basketball game at Timberline High School in Lacey. Terry Poole and his teammates will take a shot at 3-pointers with a portion of the proceeds going to youth programs throughout the county. At 6’5”, Poole’s sure to make an impact on the court as well as the couch in the fight against childhood hunger.
Tickets for the basketball game are available online or at the store and Nelson is excited for the event because it’s “really cool; you’re right there, close to the players” here in our hometown.
Olympia Furniture will host their three-year anniversary tent sale July 22-24 and you can always find current sales, promotions, events, and 5-star reviews on their Facebook page.
Look for their ultimate Seahawks collection of memorabilia, themed furniture, and autographed wall mural when visiting; it’s an amazing tribute to our 12th Man pride.
Forbes reports that “Aside from the people they hire and the money they spend in local communities, successful small businesses make a difference…Supporting the small businesses in your community creates local jobs and keeps the local economy strong and healthy, but more than that, they help make our communities places where we want to live.”
And I don’t know about you, but I want to live where generosity, community, and caring are displayed as prominently as the day’s specials. Thankfully, I already do!
