TCTV Announces New Board Members

Thurston Community Television is pleased to announce the appointment of four new Board members, each in the capacity of community representatives.  These four appointees will bring media, policy, and business experience to the Board as well as extensive community connections.

Roz Jenkins is an information designer with the Platinum Group, a consultancy that connects diverse, small construction firms with prime contractors performing projects for private clients and federal, state, regional, and local governments.  She has done communications, marketing, community outreach, policy development, policy promotion, quality improvement, and service integration projects in a variety of sectors.

Jenkins did extensive education policy work as director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs, where she convened the Black Education Strategy Roundtable and was a prime mover of successful legislation addressing educational “opportunity gaps” afflicting students of color.  Before that, she served two governors and the state Legislature, winning multiple quality awards and the Governor’s Distinguished Management Leadership Award.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast media and a master’s in public administration.

Dr. Karen Johnson

Dr. Karen A. Johnson is an executive coach, community servant leader, and government strategist who has worked in government and in nonprofit, business and faith-based organizations.  She currently serves as the Strategic Initiatives Executive for the Washington State Department of Social & Health Services.  Dr. Johnson holds a bachelor of science degree in Occupational Therapy, a master’s degree in Public Administration and a PhD in Urban Services.

Zahid Chaudhry is a life-long volunteer & social justice activist.  He works extensively with Veterans for Peace and is well known in the Thurston community for his volunteer work to bring life, love and living to others.  Among many other activities, his social and community activities include helping senior citizens, refugees and displaced people, building community gardens, assisting with fundraisers for children’s charities and  raising awareness of public safety issues and world-wide environmental, social and social justice matters.

Laurie Fordham

Laurie Fordham joins the TCTV Board with experience as a person with a disability living on a low income and active in the LGBT community. She worked for the State of Washington as a computer programmer for over ten years.  For the last five years, Laurie has edited a newsletter for Triangles, an LBTQ women’s social group, and she serves on the SAGE-Olympia (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) Film Committee.  Laurie enjoys helping to crew several TCTV programs and has produced two episodes of her South Sound Love Stories program so far.

Each of these board members brings a new dimension of knowledge and expertise to the Board and strengthens the ability of TCTV to move into its next generation of serving the community and goal of enhancing the ability of young people to be more active as citizens and local decision-makers in defining our region’s future.

In existence since 1984, TCTV is a non-profit organization that provides public, educational, and government access television and media services in greater Thurston County, Washington as well as access channel management, training and production support to local residents, groups, government agencies and educational institutions. Membership in TCTV is open to any Thurston County resident or non-profit organization located in Thurston County.
