Have you ever arrived home after a long day, only to find an empty refrigerator, a sink full of dishes and the daunting task of making dinner still ahead? Imagine how it would feel if there were some veggies already cut up for a snack and dinner was prepped in the fridge? Maybe the kitchen was even clean and there was a load of laundry already folded. The fairy godmother at your side is FirstLight HomeCare, providing much needed help for busy families.

When people think of home care, they initially think of the elderly needing assistance in the shower or with meals. FirstLight HomeCare is truly finding a way to provide full service care for everyone, not just the sick or infirmed.

I sat down with Sarah Lane, co-owner of FirstLight to discuss their “Busy Family service.” Sarah and her husband Greg are the definition of a busy family. Two working parents with kids that are very involved with sports, Sarah found herself needing some help.

FirstLight HomeCare owners, Greg (pictured) and Sarah Lane, knew that if their family was busy multiple nights a week with sports that others were too. That’s why they launched the new Busy Family Service.

She started paying one of the caregivers to do some grocery shopping for her and a new service niche was created. “I thought if I need this service with my busy family, surely others could use help as well,” Sarah explains.

Sarah makes a shopping list and the caregiver learns the family’s preferences and food allergies. Instead of coming home from work and eating out of boxes and cans, there is a home cooked meal ready to pop in the oven.

“Time we spend shopping and cooking takes away from precious family time,” she says. Additionally, she saves money by eliminating the impulse buying at the grocery store. No longer is she shopping hungry and ending up with more snacks than real food.

My own attempts to save money and shop in bulk have often resulted in filling my cart with items I don’t need, books I won’t have time to read and foods we probably shouldn’t eat. As Lane explains “the caregiver will stick to the list and read all the labels to make sure that your choices are allergy-free and healthy for your family.”

Once the groceries are purchased, the caregiver can also prep food for consumption. Even when there is ample time to shop and buy healthy foods, often those vegetables and fruits spoil in the produce drawer of the refrigerator.

The FirstLight HomeCare team is ready to handle any tasks that will mean you can spend more time with your family.

Skip scrubbing dirty toilets and hand over the task to FirstLight’s team. FirstLight caregivers know how to make your house sparkle, relieving your family of this burden. Not coming home to piles of laundry to wash, iron, and fold means more time spent with your family.  Rest assured that the soccer uniform is clean, ready to wear for the next game.

The busy family service can be customized to your needs. FirstLight caregivers are qualified and able to clean your house, cook, do laundry or even run errands. For the cost of one nice meal out for a family of four, FirstLight HomeCare can provide you with four hours of shopping and meal preparation.

“We are used to the idea of hiring help for our parents,” says Lane. “What if we hired help for ourselves so we could spend that quality time with our parents and children?”

Among the caregivers at FirstLight HomeCare are many excellent cooks, including an ex-professional chef. Simply call FirstLight at 360-489-1621 for an in-home consultation.

The team at FirstLight HomeCare participated in the annual Alzheimers Walk. Give FirstLight a call to see how their team can relieve some of your home tasks.

Owner Sarah Lane or Care Coordinator Callie Martinez will visit your home and develop a custom plan for your family and budget. Your preferences will then be communicated to a caregiver who will be your “personal assistant.” The initial consultation is free. You may want a one-time visit during a busy period in your life or weekly visits. FirstLight is completely flexible and will work with your individual needs.

FirstLight HomeCare is locally owned and operated by long-time area residents Sarah and Greg Lane. For more information visit their website at www.SouthSound.FirstLightHomeCare.com
