Use Thurston County Drop Boxes for Unwanted Medicines

Mishandling medications or skipping doses is one clue that your aging parent may need help at home.
Medications can stack up in your cabinet and become a safety hazard. Dispose of them safely at one of the local drop boxes listed here.

Do you have extra or expired prescription drugs? There’s a nationwide medicine “take back” day on April 30, coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. But you don’t have to wait until then if you live in Thurston County. There is an easy and secure way to get rid of anything you no longer need, any time.

Simply drop off any expired, unused or unwanted medicines, bottle and all, at any of six secure drop boxes. The service is free and anonymous. This helps keep your medicine chest tidy and also keeps drugs from falling into the hands of youth through improper disposal or easy access.

Putting your medicine in a drop box is also the cleanest way to dispose of it. Putting pills in the landfill will allow the drugs to seep into our water systems, where they harm both humans and wildlife. When you put them in the drop box, they are destroyed by law enforcement to keep our environment healthier.

Do your part! Drop off unused or expired medicine at any of these secure boxes in Thurston County. For other locations around Washington, visit www.takebackyourmeds.org.
