Westport Winery Garden Resort’s sparkling cranberry wine, Rapture of the Deep, has been named one of the top 100 wines in the Northwest in 2015. This is the third time this wine has earned this distinction from Andy Perdue the Great Northwest Wine editor and Seattle Times wine columnist.

In his remarks, Perdue said:

How popular has Dana Roberts’ succulent sparkling cranberry wine become? His folks more than tripled its production after winning best of class at last year’s Capital Food and Wine Festival. Considering that Grays Harbor County produces some of the country’s best cranberries, his success is understandable. The nose hints at more than just cranberry as raspberry, blood orange and rose petal waft in the background. There’s no disappointment to the drink, which brings a huge rush of flavors and a purity of fruit. While it offers a kiss of sweetness (12% residual sugar), the combination of pleasing bitterness, cleansing acidity and a slight tug of tannin creates marvelous balance. At this family’s Farm to Fork Restaurant, the staff suggests enjoying this with Chicken Gordon Gold (featuring Cougar Gold cheese), and sales of this wine help support the Driftwood Theater in nearby Aberdeen.

Rapture of the Deep is the most acclaimed selection among Westport’s 34 wines and two hard ciders, having earned numerous platinum and double gold medals, thus contributing greatly to the winery’s collection of over 300 medals from international competitions.

Westport Winery Garden Resort earned the title Best Northwest Winery from King 5 Evening Magazine on November 21.

The Rapture of the Deep sculpture in the winery’s gardens was created by Johnny and Darlene Camp of Opal Art Glass in Cosmopolis. There are more than 40 sculptures by different local artists in this free outdoor art display situated amongst the resort’s 15 acres of exhibition gardens. The Camp’s also blow all the winery’s signature Float bottles designed by winery co-owner Kim Roberts.

Rapture’s label features and underwater photograph of an octopus taken by winery co-owner, Blain Roberts. The Roberts previously owned Lahaina Divers on Maui before launching Westport Winery.

The resort’s tasting room, gift shop, restaurant, bakery, nursery and gardens are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Westport Winery Garden Resort is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport.
