Westport Winery earned three golds and one silver medal at the 2015 Amenti del Vino Wine International Competition held in Connecticut in March.
Boom Runner, the winery’s sparkling pomegranate, earned a gold medal. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits Hoquiam’s Polson Museum. Described as “a harmonious, fireworks of bold, blue fruit and pie filling,” it is suggested that you enjoy it while listening to Raise Your Glass by Pink.
Duckleberry Grunt, the winery’s most popular creation, a blend of blueberries and Gewurztraminer, also earned a gold medal. This wine benefits the Grays Harbor Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. In the tasting notes it is described as “a lusty, mountain quaff you hide from your friends.” It pairs perfectly with Wild Pacific Salmon and the song Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top.
The winery’s Petite Sirah, Swimmer, featuring a photo of winemaker Dana Roberts in his youth also earned a gold medal. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits Grays Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center. They call it “a tattooed biker wine, muscular and dangerous.” It’s no wonder you are encouraged to enjoy it with a Bubba Burger while rocking out to Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf.
Elk River Riesling, made with grapes from Red Willow Vineyard in the Yakima AVA, earned a silver medal. The Twin Harbor Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation benefits from this wine. Considered “a spine-tingling aftershock, luscious, bright and penetrating” this wine is delicious with the winery’s Wilted Spinach Salad and the song The River by Garth Brooks.
When you visit be sure to explore the resort’s unique sculpture garden, lavender labyrinth, musical fence, 9-hole executive golf course, giant chess set, outdoor scrabble game, and grape maze, all located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport. Westport Winery Garden Resort’s award-winning wines are exclusively available at this location.
