In honor of National Law Enforcement Week, our Olympia Police Department Annual Awards Banquet was held at the Olympia Center on May 13. During this ceremony a variety of awards were presented by Chief Roberts to the Olympia Police Department staff and our community partners. The awards and recipients were as follows:
Community Partner Award
- Meg Martin of Interfaith Works Emergency Overnight Shelter for her collaboration with our department in addressing homelessness and mental illness downtown.
- Brad O’Brien of Southwest Olympia Neighborhood Association for his assistance in graffiti abatement.
Commendation Awards
- Officer Ryan Donald for his proactive and innovative work addressing bicycle thefts downtown and his effective investigation into the Olympia High School Burglaries.
- Officer Eric Henrichsen for his valuable work in narcotics investigations.
- Officers Brenda Anderson and Jason Winner for their excellent work investigating, identifying and arresting the suspect of the YMCA sexual molestation cases.
Chief’s Commendation Awards
- Officer Larry Gabor for his extensive 29 year career of consistently outstanding investigative work.
- Sgt. Matthew Renschler for his team leadership abilities in Patrol Services.
- Lt. Ray Holmes for his consistent leadership, mentorship, problem solving and commitment to our organization.
Code 10 Inspirational Partner Award
- Officer Jason Watkins was voted by his peers as the person most officers would want at their side in a critical incident.
Life Saving Medal
- Corrections Officer John Badami for rescuing an inmate of the jail from trying to commit suicide.
- Officer Brenda Anderson for saving a person who was attempting to jump off a bridge.
Bravery Medal
- Officer Bill Smith for quickly charging into a house at the behest of the owner and saving her grandson from being assaulted with a weapon by an intruder.
Distinguished Service Award
- Amy Stull for promoting and connecting our agency to our community over the course of her career.
- Detective Rebecca Fayette for her exceptional work with crime scene investigations and computer forensics.
Employee of the Year Award
- Evidence Custodian Kristy Jack
Officer of the Year
