Mermaid, a varietal Merlot entered in the Bordeaux category with grapes from Two Blondes Vineyard in the Yakima Valley, earned 91-points and a gold medal. The judge’s comments said it has, “Dark garnet color. Oaky aromas of roasted coffee and nuts, chocolate toffee, and berry pie with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and an interesting, medium length, mineral, vanilla, and pickled beet finish with medium tannins and moderate oak. A lively and lush red blend that is sure to please.” A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits Grays Harbor American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
Skookumchuck, a blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot, sweetened with Muscat, earned 88-points and a silver medal. Described as having “Bright ruby color. Lively aromas of cranberry chutney, pencil shavings, and olive tapenade with a fruity sweet light-to-medium body and a smooth, interesting, breezy, mixed berries, honey, and spiced pear finish with fruit tannins and no oak. A lively, not-too-sweet dessert wine that will pair well with cheeses.” This wine benefits the Chehalis Basin Fisheries Task Force.
