It’s summer days again and with it comes time for ZUMBA® in the Park. Three years ago, a group of friends decided to get together in local parks to share their love for Zumba® and to encourage families to get physically active together. Soon passers by began to join in the latin inspired dance. In 2013, events were held every weekend from June to August and drew crowds of 25 – 40 people in various parks around Lacey and Olympia. The group is organized by volunteer Zumba ® instructors and work with Family Education Support Services and the Thurston County Healthy Child Weight Coalition (75210.org) to spread the message of raising healthy, happy kids.
By popular demand, Zumba® in the Park Olympia Lacey (ZIP for short) is back for a third year. New this year is collaboration with Hands On Children’s Museum, LOTT and the Lacey Community Market. The 2014 season will kick off with a Friday evening dance party from 6 – 8 pm in collaboration with Hands On Children’s Museum at their free First Friday event on June 6. Thereafter it is every Saturday at various locations from 2 – 3:30 PM from June 14 until September 13.
Want to have fun? Want to dance around and meet like-minded, physically active folks? Bring a bottle of water, dress appropriately for dancing around and join the other ZIPpers. Kid appropriate, family friendly events with easy to follow routines. Or add your own style and flavor!! It’s a party.
