hometown logoOlympia-area burger lovers will soon be rejoicing the arrival of the first Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant in Thurston County.  In early May, Five Guys will begin serving juicy burgers, hot dogs and fries at a new West Olympia location on Cooper Point Road.

five guys olympiaFrom their first location in Arlington, Virginia that opened in 1986 to the 1,000+ locations in the US and Canada that exist today, Five Guys has stuck with their original business model with great success. They serve only hand-formed all beef burger patties cooked to perfection on a grill, and fresh-cut fries cooked in 100% peanut oil. In addition to the burgers and fries, Five Guys restaurants are known for the big bins of self-serve peanuts in the lobby.  While you’re waiting for your order, you can scoop some peanuts into a paper bowl and have a snack.

What makes Five Guys burgers stand out is the free toppings.  You can choose any or all of the following 15 toppings on your burger, hot dog or sandwich:  Mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A.1 Steak Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce or hot sauce.

five guys menuWith a list of toppings like that, ordering might seem complicated, but Five Guys has simplified the process.  For a two-patty burger, simply order a Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Bacon Burger or Bacon Cheeseburger, and then specify the toppings you’d like.  For a single patty, order a “Little” of any one of the burgers listed above and specify your toppings.  Order “With Everything” or “All the Way,” and you’ll get mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup and mustard.  Burgers and hot dogs can also be served “bunless”, either in a bowl or wrapped in iceberg lettuce.

The hot dogs aren’t just your average hot dog.  The kosher hot dogs are split lengthwise and grilled, and can be ordered with bacon and/or cheese and then dressed with any or all of the free burger toppings.   If burgers or hot dogs aren’t your thing, Five Guys also offers a veggie sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich and a BLT.

five guys olympiaAmannda Schneider, owner of the Olympia Five Guys franchise and nine other locations, is proud of the high quality product Five Guys offers.  “We do one thing, and we do it right,” she says.

Five Guys uses real, smoked bacon as opposed to smoke-flavored bacon used in some restaurants. All of the produce is delivered fresh to the restaurant and prepared on site, so the lettuce is crunchy and the tomato slices are thick and juicy. The potatoes used for fries come straight from the farm, and are sliced, rinsed and fried to order on site.  A chalkboard next to the cash registers lists the name of the farm that provides the potatoes being served each day.

The new location, which will employ approximately 50 people when it opens, will be located in the south end of the old Kits Cameras building across the parking lot from Staples and Sports Authority in West Olympia. The location will have indoor seating as well as a patio with outdoor seating.

five guys olympiaKeep your eye out for a grand opening announcement for the West Olympia Five Guys Burgers and Fries sometime in early May. If you haven’t had a Five Guys burger yet, I recommend giving it a try. And if you have had one, you’re probably already clearing your calendar to make room for a Five Guys run or two!
