Earlier in the year when Megan Johnson spoke to ThurstonTalk.com, she made it very clear what her goal is.

“Winning state is the only goal right now,” said Johnson. “I’m going to work till I get it.”

The hard work paid off for Johnson Saturday night, as she defeated Abby Lees of Washougal 6-2 in the championship match of the 155 lbs. division of the WIAA Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome.

Three years ago, Johnson began the journey towards the state crown.  Immediately following her victory, Johnson reminisced on what brought her to the top of the podium.

“It started three years ago, doing double practices almost every day,” said Johnson. “Just a lot of work.”

And boy, did that work ever paid off.

“It’s all that brought me here right now,” said Johnson.  “It’s amazing, I feel so amazing right now.  It’s all paid off right now.”

Johnson’s journey, while fueled by her desire, was not made alone.

“These coaches are so awesome and they pushed me so hard,” said Johnson. “It’s my amazing coaches.”
