Port of Olympia Executive Director Ed Galligan announced today that he has appointed Jim Knight to Director of the Marine Terminal. Knight has served as Acting Director since July 2013.  Knight joined the Port in April 2006 as Marketing and Business Development Manager; beginning in 2011, his job concentrated primarily on the Marine Terminal.

“Jim has been making significant contributions to increasing the business of the Terminal,” said Galligan. “He has been very successful in securing new business in China and has secured several grants that have strengthened Port security.”

Previously, Knight held vice president/general manager positions in Puget Sound businesses focused on marketing, business development, seafood processing and trucking.

Knight replaces Jim Amador, who had served as Marine Terminal Director since 2004. Amador has chosen to work part-time as Senior Marine Terminal Manager as he approaches retirement.

“I recommended promoting Jim Knight to the Director post,” said Amador. “I have worked with Jim for more than seven years and am fully confident that he will continue to move the Terminal in a positive direction.”

Amador said he is enjoying working hard but for fewer hours, and having more time with his wife and grandchildren, and their canine companions.

“Jim Amador is an experienced industry leader who has contributed greatly to the Port, having served in the port industry for over 40 years,” said Galligan. “We are glad that we are able to accommodate Amador’s desire to work fewer hours, yet we still have the benefit of his significant expertise, experience and professional contacts throughout the port industry. The Port is doubly fortunate that Knight is well-prepared to step into the Director position. Knight and Amador work well together and make a uniquely dynamic leadership team for the Port’s Marine Terminal Department.”
