Lowell Gordon, owner of Olympia’s Creative Office, enjoys owning a business because of the opportunities to give back to the community.

Lowell Gordon is an Olympia business owner who supports his local community. He founded Creative Office, an office store in downtown Olympia, and consistently offers great deals on supplies and furniture for other businesses and people in Olympia. “I love owning a local business because as a local business owner I have the ability to give back to the community that my business is based in. Not only can we show that local businesses can still compete with the big box stores and national chains, but we can offer a better bargain while also having the huge advantage of building relationships within the community,” says Gordon.

When Gordon is not providing for his fellow Olympians he is still hard at work helping the community. In October 2013, Gordon helped organize a yard clean-up for one of the elderly members of our community.

He received the President’s Award from the Lacey Gateway Rotary Club earlier this year. When asked about receiving this award Gordon said, “I love to give back to my community, but I don’t do it for the recognition. However, it is a humbling experience and an honor to be recognized.”

Despite all of these achievements and good deeds, Gordon truly shines when he helps the youth in our community. The youth had only positive things to say about Gordon’s work around the community. “Lowell is awesome and his youth gatherings are always lots of fun,” said Laura, a River Ridge High School student who attends Gordon’s church. Austin, another River Ridge High School student, simply stated, “Lowell is cool.”

Lowell Gordon and his wife, Dacia, open up their home to Lacey youth.

Gordon opens up his home for the River Ridge Covenant Church’s youth group to use as a gathering place throughout the summer. He gives everyone a turn to go out on his boat and try  inner tubing and skiing on Long Lake. When asked why he lets the youth group meet at his home and use his boat, Gordon replies, “When I was in my youth the times I was allowed to go out on a boat were some of the most fun memories, and I want others to be able to have these experiences.”

Gordon and his wife, Dacia, also provide everyone with dinner and snacks, which usually consists of the always American combination of hot dogs, burgers, chips, and soda, throughout the gathering. Gordon’s reasoning behind offering everyone free food is simple. He states, “When there’s food, there’s fun.”

Dacia adds, “I enjoy spending time with students. We are still kids at heart and love the energy that surrounds these youth gatherings. I greatly value the impact that adults had in my life when I was a teen, so it is a privilege to have the chance to pour myself back into them.”

The youth, in turn, are privileged to know Gordon. He is a positive role model, a successful entrepreneur, an asset to our community, and an all around great guy.
