Stream Team Volunteers plant holiday live trees to help restore stream habitats.

Stream Team is sponsoring a live holiday tree program as an alternative to purchasing trees that end up becoming mulch or go into the landfill. Potted Douglas fir trees are available for purchase from December 9 through December 20, and may be planted after holiday use.

After enjoying the tree indoors or outdoors for the holidays, it may be planted on personal property or dropped off at a designated location in Lacey or Olympia for planting. You can also bring the tree and join Stream Team staff and volunteers at Woodland Creek Community Park for a streamside restoration planting party on January 11. The trees will provide a habitat for wildlife, and shade and oxygen for coming generations.

To reserve a tree, call Puget Sound Plants at (866) 816-5080, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and let them know that your purchase will be part of the Stream Team Holiday Trees for Restoration Program. Costs vary from $15 to $38 depending on the length, ranging from three to six feet. The potted trees come with care instructions on how to care for them over the holidays.
