Have you met our five new high school interns? We have been introducing them via social media over the past week and have already begun publishing work by this outstanding group of teenagers. In August, we conducted a county-wide search for a select group of high school students to work with us on a monthly basis. We were proud to interview and select five students that represent four school districts and each grade level.
ThurstonTalk provides real-world experience, suitable for college and scholarship applications. The interns return with monthly stories about people, events, and activities important to their demographic.
Keep your eye on our site for work published by Claire Smith (Capital freshman), Sara Hollar (Olympia sophomore), Kira Stussy (Tumwater junior), Emily VanMarter (Northwest Christian senior), and Libby Kamrowski (Timberline senior).
Now back to our regular programming… what’s going on around Olympia this weekend?
- Autumn activities kick off around Thurston County. Find a list of pumpkin patches here.
- Salmon are running through Tumwater Falls Park. Enjoy free kid activities, centered around salmon migration, at LOTT’s WET Science Center on Saturday.
- Take a (free!) guided walk to explore downtown Olympia’s art. The waterfront public art tour leaves from the Farmers Market on Saturday at 11:00 am. This is the final tour of the season. Pick up some seasonal fall produce while you are at the Market.
- Cheer for the Oly Rollers at Skateland on Saturday night.
- Listen to fan-favorite Oly Mountain Boys at Robin Hood Restaurant on Saturday evening.
- Celebrate at the Nisqually Watershed Festival on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
- Enjoy the changing autumn colors at McLane Creek Nature Trail or a hike (rain or shine) at Staircase.
- Grab the last weekend to participate in the Timberland Library’s GeoChallenge.
