Are you ready for an emergency that would keep you in your home for 3 days or maybe even longer? September is emergency preparedness month. Thurston County Emergency Management has great resources available to help you plan for your family’s safety.

One example of their great programs is Map Your Neighborhood (MYN).   This program is designed to allow neighborhoods to prepare for disasters.  The program will identify the 9 steps to take immediately following a disaster.     While new home communities establish homeowner associations, emergency preparedness is not generally a function of an owners’ association.

Programs such as MYN allow neighborhoods with or without an association to organize their efforts and identify potential risks before a disaster occurs.    The next map your neighborhood class is scheduled for Thursday, October 3, 2013.  For more information about the MYN program or any emergency preparedness programs contact Vivian Eason at easonv@co.thurston.wa.co.
