lacey community market“What to do, where to go?” are questions faced by every parent.  Even those with furry, four legged children are dogged by those age-old questions.  Fortunately, Lacey Community Market has answers that appeal to both the two and four legged family varieties.

On Saturday, September 14th the Market will hold its 5th Annual Pet Day Event from 10 am – 4 pm at Huntamer Park in Lacey.

Market-goers can expect a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, with live music and pet domonstrations all day long. The ‘main event’ will be a pet look-alike contest with prizes awarded. A low-cost pet mirochipping clinic will also be available.

With this specific clientele in mind, pet parents are encouraged to bring along their furry (and feathered, scaled, even hairless) brood and enjoy a traditional open-air market where “normal” behavior includes laying in the middle of the aisle, excessive whining/drooling, and eating without proper utensils.

“It’s the socializing aspect that’s appealing,” noted Mary Coppin, Community Liaison for the City of Lacey’s Public Affairs Department.  “Pets have become part of the family, so Pet Day is about including all members the family.  It’s usually the busiest Market of the summer, and it has grown significantly with more vendors and participation each year.”  About 1,800 people are expected to attend.

Live music will be on stage throughout the day.  The Wildcat Riders will perform country blues/ragtime from 10 am – 12 pm, and Cricket on the Hearth will perform traditional folk music from 2 pm – 4 pm.

Pet families looking for additional entertainment opportunities will enjoy the Pet Look-Alike Contest at 11:30 and the agility demonstrations offered all day long.  The Low Cost Microchip Clinic will be available from 11 am – 1 pm.  Face painting, a mini-obstacle course, and a rock wall will also be available for the kiddos to enjoy.

If you are still debating whether or not to bring your family to Pet Day, consider this: prizes for the Pet Look-Alike Contest will be awarded for “Best Natural Look-Alike” and “Best Costume Look-Alike.”  As if that isn’t reason enough to at least stop by for free entertainment!
