Port of Olympia FoofarawPort of Olympia is proud to participate once again in the annual Foofaraw Military Appreciation Day on Sept. 6. We want to inform downtown area neighborhoods that sirens and horns will salute our troops at 8 a.m. that day.

Members of Washington State Patrol, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Olympia Fire Department, Weyerhaeuser Company and the Port will fly the flag and sound emergency equipment as military guests cruise past the Port.

The new Community Security Boat, Integrity, will be on hand to salute the troops with Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza and Port Commissioner Jeff Davis aboard. The security vessel is a result of interagency cooperation between the Port and the Sheriff’s Office.

The purpose of the security vessel is to handle law enforcement matters that may occur in Budd Inlet within City and County boundaries, as well as other emergencies. The boat is also equipped with fire suppression devices.

Military guests will enjoy a fun-filled day of outdoor activities with a salmon dinner prepared by Chehalis Tribe members.

Sponsoring Foofaraw 2013 are Olympia Yacht Club, Thurston County Chamber and Harborstone Credit Union.
