Clair Ferris will talk, answer questions at Tumwater Timberland Library Saturday, August 17

Clair Ferris, a longtime local funeral director, will talk about after-death options including burial and funeral planning, state law, and green alternatives. The talk, titled “In Memoriam: Funeral and Burial Planning in Washington State,” will be at the Tumwater Timberland Library on Saturday, August 17 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Ferris will speak on family preparedness and your rights pertaining to funeral consumer issues such as the following:

  • New laws pertaining to power of attorneys and designated agents
  • Your right to choose your own disposition before death
  • What to do when a death occurs
  • Your rights under the Federal Trade Commission’s “Funeral Rule”
  • Veterans benefits
  • Answers to your questions: “Ask the Funeral Director”

Ferris has worked in the funeral industry for over 40 years. He and his family have lived in the Olympia area for 24 years. He operated Mills & Mills for 13 years before he and his wife opened their own business, Funeral Alternatives of Washington in 2002. Along with extensive involvement in numerous community organizations, Ferris is a member of the Senior Action Network (SAN) and its speakers bureau.
