The Plant Place Nursery Debut New Shrubs and Trees

Each summer we embark on ordering a large variety of bare root deciduous trees and shrubs for the upcoming year which will represent about one quarter of our overall plant inventory.

It’s an opportunity to acquire old standbys and popular new varieties for our customers.  Since bare root material is less costly than finished, it’s one of the ways we can offer more competitive pricing.

The plants arrive in January and February.  Shrubs are containerized, while trees are entered into both pots and ‘grow bags’ and then lined out in our fields.  Plants are held for up to seven months until they ‘root out’ completely, come up to size, and then are entered into our inventory.  June and July are always exciting as plants ‘finish’, and we can finally get them onto the retail display lot.

Currently, we have a great selection of:

  • Hydrangea (including ‘Strawberry Vanilla’, ‘Bella Anna’, ‘Quick Fire’ tree-form, ‘Endless Summer’ varieties)
  • Ornamental Ninebark (including ‘Little Devil’, ‘Amber Jubilee’, ‘Center Glow’)
  • Barberry (including ‘Sunjoy Golden Pillar’, ‘Admiration’, ‘Orange Rocket’)
  •  Spiraea (including ‘Superstar’, ‘Tor Birchleaf’, ‘Mellow Yellow’)
  • Flowering Cherry and Crabapple (including ‘Spring Wonder’, ‘Little Twist’, ‘Akebono’, ‘Ruby Tears’, ‘Sargent Tina’, ‘Golden Raindrops’)
