This week’s cool, cloudy mornings opening up to glorious sunny afternoons are almost a “tradition” for Puget Sound summer weather. Despite the initial feeling of let down when I get up to another cloudy morning, the weather has allowed productivity in the mornings and great outings in the afternoon. And opportunities for annual traditions abound this weekend from a visit to the Fifty-Sixth Annual Capital Lakefair to a family trip to Skyline Drive-In. For a full list of options, check out the events calendar or navigate to our outdoor activities section to enjoy those sunny afternoons.
- Run around the Ferris Wheel at the Lakefair Run. Registration still open on Friday for the 8K, 3K and Kids Run.
- Cheer on the athletes at the Capital Lakefair Volleyball Tournament on the Capitol Campus. While you’re there, check out 10 free things to do with your kids at the Capitol.
- Pick berries at one of our many local U-Pick berry farms. Be sure to call ahead to see what’s ripe.
- View three family films and join in the games and activities at Skyline Drive-In’s Kids Day. Shows include the newly released “Turbo” and classic favorite “The Princess Bride”.
- Explore area beaches during the sunny afternoon. Beach Naturalist will be at four local parks both Saturday and Sunday to answer questions. To explore Puget Sound Critters indoors, check out the South Sound Estuarium open all weekend.
- Relax on Saturday evening with a live Concert and Movie (Blue Hawaii this week) at Huntamer Park as part of the Lacey In-Tune Summer Series.
- Enjoy local theater productions. With four different plays showing this weekend, you are sure to find one that piques your interest.
- Stroll the Olympia Farmer’s Market and say “hi” to the farmers from Kirsop Farms.
- Avoid the action packed weekend in town and find your inner peace Paddleboarding around Olympia or Kayaking around Grays Harbor.
