Community invited to attend Forums on Ingersoll Stadium security

The Olympia School District is seeking public input regarding the best ways to protect the community’s investment in Ingersoll Stadium, located at 1302 North Street. Ingersoll Stadium has increasingly been the target of vandalism and misuse, including bike and motorcycle damage, graffiti, overnight camping, broken bottles and used drug paraphernalia, which are compromising the safety of the stadium and putting the public’s investment at risk. In addition, in April 2013 the City of Olympia Hearing Examiner issued a decision affirming specific group use limitations for the stadium. As a result, the District is considering ways to continue making the stadium as accessible as possible to the community while maintaining a safe environment and meeting the Hearing Examiner’s use regulation requirements.

The District is holding two public forums to discuss options and gather ideas from the community on best practices for protecting Ingersoll Stadium while meeting the Hearing Examiner’s requirements. We invite interested Olympia School District students, families and community members to attend one of these two meetings:

·         Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m.

·         Monday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Both meetings will take place at the Olympia School District’s Knox Administrative Center, 1113 Legion Way SE, Olympia. Public discussion at the two meetings will be summarized and presented to the school board in late August.

Questions about the meetings may be directed to the OSD Communications and Community Relations office at OSD@osd.wednet.edu or (360) 596-6103.
