Coldwell Banker Announces Scholarship Essay Contest

Olympia, WA. – Thurston County high school students are invited to participate in a scholarship essay contest sponsored by Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty.

The essay contest “What Makes a House a HOME?” is open to all high school age students currently enrolled or living in Thurston County, Washington.

A home is more than just the shelter you reside in. It can be an apartment, boat, house, or cabin. What is it that makes the place you reside in a home? That is the topic for a 500 word essay Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty is asking high school students. The essay contest begins accepting submissions on Monday, April 15, 2013 through Sunday, May 5, 2013, on Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty’s Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/cbolympia.

After the submission period, fan voting for finalists will be conducted Monday, May 6, 2013 through Friday, May 24, 2013. Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges from the finalists and announced on June 3, 2013. We are part of the community and support education in Thurston County; this is just one way for us to stay involved. We are thrilled that in the past two years we received over 90 essay submissions. Last year’s winner put her scholarship to great use as she is currently attending The University of Washington in Tacoma. Our goal this year is to increase participation levels by local area high school students.”

A judging panel of local community members will be selecting the winners of the essay contest. Three winners will be chosen based on organization of thoughts, proper grammar and spelling, creativity, effectiveness of main point and judges’ subjectivity/opinions. Prizes will be awarded in the amounts of:

1st prize – $1000.00, 2nd prize – $750.00, 3rd prize – $500.00 for a total of $2250 in prizes.
