South Puget Sound Community College student David Vo represented the college on the 2013 All-Washington Academic Team. Vo was recognized at a ceremony on Thursday, March 21.

Gov. Jay Inslee was on hand to help honor recipients at the 18th annual All-Washington Academic Team recognition ceremony hosted in the college’s Student Union Building.

The field of honorees for this year’s All-Washington Academic Team consists of 65 students representing all the state’s 34 community and technical colleges. When the event began 18 years ago, 44 students from 24 community and technical colleges were honored.

Vo, an 18-year-old pursing his Associate of Arts degree while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, is actively involved in the life of the campus. He is the financial officer for the Student Senate, serving as vice president for finance and administration. He is also a member of the Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee, and the LGBTQ and Students of Color subcommittees. Vo is a member of the Pacific Islanders Club and participates in a variety of diversity education activities.

The program honors students who demonstrate a commitment to success in the classroom and service in their communities, and showcases Washington’s community and technical colleges. Vo received a $500 scholarship from KeyBank (as did each team member), a $1,250 scholarship as a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar (of which Vo was one of just 50 nationwide), a $1,000 scholarship from the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges. Washington State Employees Credit Union awarded an additional $250 to eight team members.

PTK, KeyBank, TACTC, the Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges, and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges sponsor the All-Washington event. For more information, contact Kellie Purce Braseth at (360) 596-5214 or visit www.spscc.ctc.edu/allwa.
