Westport Winery celebrated a historic competition win for their five year anniversary. On March 23, 2013, four of Westport Winery’s recent releases earned medals at the Capitol Food & Wine Festival in Lacey, Washington.

The big win came from Bog Berry Blush, the winery’s blend of Gewurztraminer and cranberry, which earned Best in Show Fruit wine along with a gold medal. This is the winery’s second Best in Show in the past month. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefit’s Washington State University’s Cranberry Research Station and Museum in Long Beach, Washington. Carrie Roberts, the winery’s general manager, is featured on this label.

Ancient Mariner’s, a blend of Riesling and pear, earned a silver medal at this competition, further highlighting the winery’s success with fruit other than grapes in creating their wines. Coastal Animal Rescue and Adoption is the beneficiary of this wine.

The winery’s most popular offering, Duckleberry Grunt, a blend of Gewurztraminer, huckleberry and blueberry also earned a silver medal. The Grays Harbor chapter of Ducks Unlimited benefits from the sale of this wine.

In their first five years the Roberts family, owners of Westport Winery, has contributed $250,000 to 33 local charities. On their website the family said, “We have a passion for our community and express that passion by crafting premium wines benefiting local charities.”
