LACEY, WASHINGTON — Saint Martin’s alumni have a reason to celebrate: After a long hiatus, Homecoming Weekend is returning with gusto. The 2013 celebration is set for Feb. 8-10 on the University’s Lacey campus. The Homecoming Weekend festivities will include a variety of events for students, alumni and members of the community.
Why the resurrection? “Earlier this year, we asked alumni how they’d like to connect back to their alma mater,” explains Brenna Batchelor, alumni relations manager at Saint Martin’s. “We received a resounding response that Homecoming is sorely missed. Our alumni spoke and we listened.”

Friday, Feb. 8
3 p.m. Lecture: “The Business of Music”
As part of its 2012-13 Abbey Church Events series, St. Martin’s Abbey presents “The Business of Music,” a lecture by classical saxophonist Gary Louie, held in Kreielsheimer Hall.
7 p.m. All-class reunion | $20 per person
All alumni and their guests are invited to join the celebration at O’Blarney’s Irish Pub, where we’ll kick off Homecoming Weekend with an all-class reunion featuring the classes of 2008, 2003, and 1988. Complimentary appetizers and beer are part of the festivities!
Saturday, Feb. 9
9 a.m. Start your day off right!
Wake up your body, mind and spirit. Alumni and their guests can choose from an energizing morning yoga session or an inspiring jogging tour of campus.
10 a.m. Alumni pick-up basketball game
Take to the courts of Charneski Recreation Center for a friendly game of hoops with fellow Saints alumni.
10 a.m. Brunch | $8.50 per person
Alumni and their guests can enjoy brunch in St. Gertrude’s Dining Hall in Old Main. Great meal, great company! Brunch served until 1 p.m.
11 a.m. Saints baseball home opener
In their first home game of the season, the Saints meet the University of Puget Sound.
1 p.m. Guided tour of the new Cebula Hall
Come see what the buzz is about! Take a tour of the University’s new engineering facility, built “green” with many innovative and sustainable features.
1 p.m. Guided campus tour
What’s new on your old stomping grounds? Find out just how much has changed on Saint Martin’s campus.
1 p.m. Classes without quizzes
No tests required, so sit back and enjoy as Associate Professor Jeff Birkenstein, Ph.D., chair of Saint Martin’s English Department, presents a class on “Literature as History, Historic Signs as Literature and Toni Morrison’s Beloved.”
1 p.m. Department drop-ins

Rally around our Saints! Meet new friends, reconnect with old friends and show your support for our men’s and women’s basketball teams. Per-person cost includes double-header game tickets.
7:30 p.m. Saints vs. University of Alaska-Fairbanks
Cheer on the men’s basketball team against GNAC opponent University of Alaska in the second half of the Saints double-header.
8 p.m. Gary Louie and Kirsten Taylor in concert
Classical saxophonist Gary Louie and pianist Kirsten Taylor perform live in concert in the Abbey Church, presented by Abbey Church Events. A free-will donation is suggested.
Sunday, Feb. 10
11 a.m. Mass
Homecoming Weekend closes with Mass at the Abbey Church. Come celebrate with us!
