County’s annual emergency preparedness event October 13th includes kits and tutorials.

From generator safety to food storage, from emergency kit prep to pet prep, you’ll find all this and more at the annual Thurston County Emergency Preparedness EXPO on Saturday, October 13 at Saint Martin’s University.

This year’s guest speakers include Andy Wappler from Puget Sound Energy to talk about their campaign “Take Winter By Storm” and what you can do to be storm ready, along with Hollie Smith from Thurston County Emergency Management to talk about how to prepare yourself to care for all of your animals, whether they’re dogs, cats, exotics, or livestock.

The free event will open at 10 a.m. at the university’s Marcus Pavilion & Worthington Conference Center, and every attendee will receive a free KITMAN safety bag that will give you a jumpstart on creating your own emergency response kit. More than 40 vendors will be on hand with information and demonstrations on everything you need to prepare, respond, and recover from the next storm or emergency.
