“Pawsitively Fun at the Thurston County Fair”

• The Thurston County Fair is looking for fair volunteers. If you are interested in Home Arts, Hobbies and Crafts, or like to help out and have fun at the same time, this opportunity is for you!
• The Thurston County Fair is still accepting applications for Fair Time Vendors! We are always looking for new and exciting products to display at the fair, and love to have local business come and show what they can offer to the community!
• Open Class Home Arts entries are due  3:00 – 7:00 pm on July 23, 2012 in Heritage Hall.
• Open Class Beverages entries are due 3:00 – 7:00 pm on July 24, 2012 in Heritage Hall.
• Open Class Baked Goods, Honey and Food Preservation entries are due 3:00 – 7:00 pm on July 30, 2012 in Heritage Hall.
• Open Class Hobbies & Crafts, Open Class Photography, and Open Class Art entry times are from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 28.
• Open Class Art can also be entered from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 29.
• Floral and Vegetable entries should be entered between 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, July 30 at the Thurston Expo Center located on the Thurston County Fairgrounds.  Enter for a chance to win a ribbon!
• Anyone who has taken photographs, professional or amateur, is encouraged to enter an exhibit in the Open Class Photography.  All entrants will be judged and have an opportunity to receive the People’s Choice Award.
• Anyone who has a special recipe for baked goods, or has preserved food or honey they would like to enter into the fair to be judged is encouraged to bring them in Monday, July 30th. Enter yeast or quick breads, cakes, cookies, candies, or pies. There is a special category for goods made with honey; Special prizes will be awarded by the Olympia Bee Keepers Association for these entries.  Preserved foods such as canned fruits and vegetables, pickles, sauces, vinegars, meats, and dehydrated foods can be entered from 3:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, July 30th.
• Enter Thurston County Fair’s Quilt Block Contest on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Thurston County Fairground’s Heritage Hall between 3:00pm -7:00pm. Quilt Block Kits are available for $8.95 at Gee Gee’s Quilting Inc., 601 Yelm Ave West, Yelm, WA 98597. You can use this fabric to make any block pattern from the fabrics, but you cannot add any other fabric from outside the packet. Participants should bring their finished quilt block no wider than 12 ½” square, which will be judged on accuracy of construction and creative use of the supplied fabric. All squares will be displayed in Heritage Hall during the Thurston County Fair, and twelve squares will be kept by the Thurston County Fair to be made into a quilt and raffled off at next year’s fair.
• Enter your home-made beverages at the Thurston County Fair this summer. Categories include Ale, Lager, or Hybrid Beers; Wine; Mead; or Cider. Entries will be accepted Tuesday, July 24 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the fairgrounds.
