Habitat For Humanity Completes 5 Homes

South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the completion of its five homes at Shepherd’s Grove in Tumwater in a dedication on Saturday, June 16th.

Through donations of money, materials and volunteer labor, South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity is able to build homes and sell them at affordable prices.  Habitat’s partner families purchase the homes with a no-profit loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat homes.

Sponsors of the Shepherd’s Grove project include: Harbor Wholesale, Washington State Employees Combined Fund Drive, Home Depot, Great Floors, Bayview Building Materials, All Painting, Roof Doctor, Seaway Enterprises, OBEE Credit Union, Community Youth Services and the New Market Skills Center.  Dedicated volunteers have put thousands of hours of labor into the homes, and the five partner families have also each completed at least 250 hours of ‘sweat equity’ toward their homes as a requirement for becoming Habitat homeowners.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 10:30 am and include presentations by Curt Andino, Executive Director for South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity, and Diane Bingaman, President of the Board of Directors, as well as a performance by a local music group.  Pastor John Rosenberg from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Tumwater will lead the blessing of the homes.  Local officials including Neil McClanahan, Mayor Pro Tem of Tumwater, Karen Valenzuela, Thurston County Commissioner, and Sam Read, Secretary of State, will present the partner families with the keys to their new homes.

As they move into the new homes they’ve worked so hard to build, each of these five families embarks on an exciting and rewarding journey, one that promises stability, health, increased financial opportunities, and much more.  Please join South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity in celebration of this important community milestone.
