To say Angela Dalton stays busy is an understatement. As the school’s activities coordinator, she is in charge of two leadership classes, which positions her as the primary leader in food drives, assemblies, dances, and spirit weeks. After graduating from PLU, Ms. Dalton has worked at River Ridge for nine years; however, she is unable to pick a favorite year.

With a record of completing many successful assemblies, homecomings, various food drives, and a spirit week,  it is difficult to go into detail about the recent accomplishments of this school year alone.

“We’ve finished first semester strong,” Dalton said.

Currently, Dalton and her leadership classes are working toward a successful Valentine’s spirit week, which she hopes will be “a [successful] second.”

Dalton has a history with River Ridge. When she went there as a student, she was mentored by the previous activities counselor: Mr. Bates. The idea to lead, stuck with her. Over the years, she has never wanted to do anything but teach, and upon graduating college, was able to lock up the job at River Ridge the first time she applied for the leadership advisor position.

Dalton walks the halls of the school during lunch and any time she has free, although her favorite place is her classroom. The classroom itself has been passed down to many classes of ASB students. The walls of the room pay tribute to these former leaders of the school.

Over the years, the staff of the student council has proudly displayed items from assemblies, food drives, dances, festivals and the like. Anything deemed memorable or important, including some inside jokes, have been stapled to the walls or stacked on the floor so that the new arrivals to the ASB can enjoy and remember them.

Yet, the most notable feature is the full length, full wall  mirror hanging in the room. Dalton is unsure of its original reason of existence.

Dalton also has been considered (and even voted on occasion) for having the best fashion sense of the school’s staff. She considers it a bit of a double-edged type of compliment.

“I would like to be known for something other than my clothes,” Dalton said.

The coordinator enjoys listening to older music and church music.  She is unable to name a favorite artist and doesn’t watch much TV.

Instead, she remains where she is happiest: within the magical walls of the leadership room, which are marked with memorabilia of the leaders she has mentored.
