Getting outside no matter the weather is more than a tradition in the Pacific Northwest, it’s a way of life. And there are as many ways to enjoy the region’s great scenery and environment as there are travelers. Some prefer a solitary hike through the remotest corners of the Cascades; others find the view out the window of a rolling RV to be incomparable. Regardless of preference, there’s plenty of room to roam and there’s always a perfect spot to pitch a tent or park a rig.

Features: The resort has sites for tents and RVs as well as heated, partially furnished cabins for rent. Anglers can stalk trout and kokanee in the lake with a bait and tackle shop handy on-site. Swimming, picnicking and boating are all common activities and hiking trails are close at hand as is the Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park.

Features: Though more known for its cottage rentals, Robin Hood Village also features space for RVers, including some waterfront slots. Amenities include kayaks, row boats and the Robin Hood Restaurant & Pub. The small town of Union is nearby and Alderbrook Resort, with its restaurant and golf course is even closer.

Gig Harbor RV Resort

Features: Sitting along the shores of Olympia’s Black Lake, Columbus Park offers accommodations for picnicking and day use as well as long-term spots for month-long or even yearlong stays. There are outdoor kitchens and covered areas for groups, available by reservation. A swimming area is handy along with access to the lake for boating, water-skiing and jet-skis. Tent camping is available and there are showers and a playground for children.

 Olympia Campground

Features: Open year round, Olympia Campground has pull-through RV sites with full hookup, tent sites and a pair of camping cabins. There is a playground on site as well as seasonally heated pool, playground and shower facility. Each site has a picnic table and some sites also feature fire pits. Propane, fuel and diesel are available and a dump station is on site for registered visitors. Also on site are a TV room and laundry facilities.

American Heritage Campground

Features: Set in a park-like forested area 25 acres in size, American Heritage features more spacious and secluded sites than many RV parks and campgrounds. Electric, water and sewer hookups are available and tent camping is allowed at some hookup locations. Fire pits and picnic tables are there at all sites and one cabin is for rent. Amenities include a seasonally heated outdoor pool, playground with volleyball areas and horseshoe pits and an animal viewing farm. There is a 5000 square foot pavilion available for reservation for large groups.

Deep Lake Resort

Features: The resort is a gated, adults-only facility with 20 RV sites with metered electrical hookups along with water, waste, phone and cable TV. Anglers can fish the lake and a day room and laundry facilities are available.

Harmony Lakeside RV Park

Features: Billing itself as “an upscale” RV park/campground, Harmony Lakeside features a large number of open and wooded RV sites near Lake Mayfield on the Cowlitz River. Boat rental is available and visitors are encouraged to bring their own watercraft. There are a pair of kitchen-equipped clubhouse facilities available for rent for large gatherings and a Laundromat is on site. Cabins are also available for rent.
