May Forum:

Energy. We all want it. We all use it. And, if you’re a Lacey Chamber member, you have a bunch of it. Lacey Chamber members seem to be more engaging, more entrepreneurial, and more energetic than most.

So what better topic for the May Chamber Forum than energy? We’re all feeling even more energetic because spring is here. Spring is all about green, so it’s no surprise¾at least in my mind¾that green can translate into ways to promote and benefit from energy.

Green business? You bet. I like to think of it as profit photosynthesis. Green Energy is the next profit frontier, and smart entrepreneurs will find ways to benefit. That’s why our May Forum will feature three great examples of partnerships that can help us benefit from energy.

First, the City of Lacey will talk a little about the benefits of their environmental stewardship. We’re lucky in Lacey. Our city “gets it,” providing the foundation and the amenities that make for a great quality of life, which means people want to live here and are happier to do so. Happy people make great customers, productive employees, and committed community members. All of which translates into opportunity for businesses who tune in to preserving and promoting our quality of life – businesses like Puget Sound Energy.

PSE is a leader in offering all sorts of great incentives to benefit from going green. One incentive is the Green Power Challenge, so “Flip the Switch” to green. Here’s the challenge: if the folks in Lacey and our capital sister city sign up 1,011 new Green Power customers in 2011, PSE will provide funding for solar power demo projects.

Solar power? Here? Absolutely! Think of all the warehouses with empty rooftops just sitting there collecting moss. I see that and I think what a great place to collect and harvest solar energy! Private contractors making deals with private businesses to sell energy to private power companies facilitated by a public/private partnership.

Other cites will be green with envy…

PSE will also be speaking about their Green Power Rewards program – a way to bring Green Power customers right to your door, and green money right to your cash register.

Speaking of public/private partnerships, we’ll also be hearing from Thurston Energy, who has lots of ways to save green. Doing energy audits and hooking businesses up with free products and expert contractors to do your energy upgrade work. Save energy, save money, and create local jobs in the building industry. That’s a partnership that energizes my hopes for a thriving economy.

Get on the green energy bandwagon…it’s going down the road to sustainable profits.

Go green, save green, and make some green at the same time.

I’m suddenly feeling very energetic…
