Puget Sound Energy Gives Consumers an Opportunity to Go Green

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) supplies electricity to millions of homes in Washington State alone. All that power needs to come from somewhere, and as any environmentally conscious person will tell you, a large portion of our nation’s electricity is unsustainably generated using oil and coal. Washington is an exception to this statistic because, according to the State Department of Energy, about 42% of our electrical energy is clean, and generated hydraulically in dams or other hydroelectric facilities.

Currently, PSE is working to tip the scales and help the amount of clean energy in our power grid to overtake that generated by fossil fuels. PSE has invited their customers to aid in this effort through the establishment of their Green Power Program. By paying as little as four dollars extra per month, we can help them purchase cleanly generated electricity; encouraging the growth of sustainably generated power in our state. Participation in the program is strictly voluntary, and if need be, you can cancel at any time by contacting the company directly.

In addition to the fact that this program will be good for the environment, the Green Power Program is also not for profit. All of the money that is collected from the registered customers will go to purchasing clean energy, and educating people about the benefits of using sustainable electricity. This program is one of six hundred voluntary green-energy purchase programs in the United States, and it consistently ranks in the top ten according to the Department of Energy’s Renewably Energy Laboratory. Every effort is made, up to the governmental level, to ensure that the amount of clean power that is purchased accurately reflects the monetary contributions of PSE’s customers.
