Tyler Langford (Tenino) grapples with Matt Dean (WF West)

As snow fell outside, Tenino High School hosted Yelm, Rainer and WF West High Schools for a wrestling meet this past Tuesday evening.  Among the many athletes who competed was State competition hopeful, Tyler Langford from Tenino. Langford, a Junior,  wrestles in the 140 lb weight class and participated in the State tournament last year as well as Regionals in 2009. He is currently ranked 7th in the State for the 1A division. Langford, who prefers to finish off his opponents with a cradle, believes that piledrivers should be allowed in high school wrestling. Despite showing tremendous skill and determination on the mat, Langford was narrowly defeated on points to Matt Dean from WF West, who competes in the 2A division. Despite his loss, Langford’s record for the season is 18 wins and 4 losses. The State tournament is scheduled for February 18-19th at the Tacoma Dome where we hope to see Langford, and hopefully others from Tenino High School compete.
