Stand Up Paddle boarding is becoming a big hit around the world and in the last year or so I have noticed more SUP boards around the Thurston County area. Now being the outdoor enthusiast that I am I thought I better give stand up paddle boarding a try. WOW! what a great sport…. and it is very easy with a quick learning curve. You will be having fun in a matter of minutes!
My wife and I have been paddle boarding off of Cooper Point for the last few months. We make our way over to the Boston Harbor area for workouts. When paddling hard I would argue that it is as good of a workout as jogging with less impact on your body.
If you are looking for an easy to manuever in the water and off the water (meaning they are easy to carry) way to get out on the water look for SUP boarding as a great sport. The entry cost of a quality board is around $800 -$2000 while the paddle is $200 – $400. I have heard the used market is starting to take off, as well.
Stand Up Paddle boarding is a fast growing sport and I am sure we will see many more Stand Up Paddle boards on the waters within Thurston County and beyond. Notice the dry bag on my wife’s board which held our picnic dinner and yes a bottle of vino!
At this time I have not been able to find any local retailers who rent or sell the boards.
