South Puget Sound Community College just added another stand-out to its 2015-16 Artist & Lecture Series slate – renowned inaugural poet Richard Blanco. Blanco will appear at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts on Friday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Blanco, selected by President Barack Obama in 2012 to serve as the fifth inaugural poet alongside such literary heavyweights as Maya Angelou and Robert Frost, will read selections from his 2014 memoir “The Prince of Los Cocuyos.” The book is Blanco’s coming-of-age story highlighting his struggles growing up as the child of Cuban immigrants, while also coming to terms with his own artistic and sexual identities. A signing will take place after the reading and lecture portion of the evening.
