Dr. Leslie Korn will appear at Orca Books in Olympia, WA January 12, 2012, at 3pm to discuss her latest book, ‘Rhythms of Recovery: Trauma, Nature, and the Body.’
The book provides a comprehensive guide for clinicians who have been trained in psychology and medicine to successfully incorporate Complementary and Alternative Medicine into the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  According to Korn, who is director of research at the Center for World Indigenous Studies, a non-profit American Indian organization based in Olympia and former instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, the approach presented provides a breakthrough into the treatment of PTSD “because it reintroduces the body as the focus of treatment as a doorway into the recovery of the mind.”
Treatment protocols highlight integrative cultural approaches to healing including restoration of traditional, indigenous foods, nutrition, shamanism, yoga, bodywork and touch, spirituality, botanical medicine, cannabis, detoxification, and psychology.
Korn is a world-renowned expert in the integration of psychology and Complementary and Alternative Medicine with over 35 years experience of clinical and scientific research in treating her own patients as well as lectures to others in her field.
Orca Books is located at 509 E. 4th Ave. in downtown Olympia.  The book was released November 23, 2012, by Routledge Press. The book offers an exam that provides 7 (low cost) CE’s for counselors and psychologists.
