Trees and forests are part of the fabric and identity of our community. Join us in celebrating Arbor Day by removing invasive weeds and planting native plants at Grass Lake Refuge or Priest Point Park. These events will be followed by a celebration and street tree plantings downtown. Washington State Department of Enterprise Services is also offering a tree tour of the Capitol Campus that day. See the list of times and events below and attached flyer for more information.

Volunteer Events:

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Grass Lake Refuge

Remove invasive blackberry/English holly and plant native trees. Meet at the Kaiser Entrance. Park along Kaiser, 6th Ave, or at the Westwood Baptist Church parking lot.

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Priest Point Park

Remove English ivy near the mouth of Mission Creek and plant native trees and shrubs. Meet at Shelter 4 near the playground.

Volunteers will receive a pair of work gloves to keep and a voucher for a free water bottle at the celebration downtown (first 100 volunteers). To register for this event, visit www.streamteam. info and click on “Register”. For more information, contact Tamara Lindner at tlindner@ci.olympia.wa.us (360.753.8159)

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM Arbor Day Celebration Downtown at the Artesian Commons

11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Capitol Campus Tree Tour

The State of Washington’s Capitol Campus is home to many historic, significant, and unique species of trees and other plants. Join the Department of Enterprise Service’s Horticulturist and the Department of Natural Resource’s Urban Forestry Specialist on a walking tour of the Capitol Campus landscape as they explore with you its history, design, site features, and notable plant specimens. Meet at the Old Thurston County Courthouse at 1110 Capitol Way South (corner of Capitol Way SE and 11th Ave. SE) to celebrate the planting of a tree, with the tour to follow.
