Several road closures are expected this Saturday, January 5, 2019. As part of Captain John Ostergard’s line-of-duty-death service, there will be a procession traveling from East Olympia Fire Station 61, 8047 Normandy Street SE, to the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 940 Israel Road SW, Tumwater. In Tumwater, Linderson Way SW will be closed to all through traffic from Dennis Street to Tumwater Boulevard starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending about 3:00 p.m. The procession is scheduled to leave Station 61 at 11:15 a.m. traveling north on Rich Road, west on Yelm Highway to Henderson Blvd, and west on Tumwater Blvd to Linderson Way. The lead engine carrying Captain Ostergard is expected to arrive to the church at noon. Apparatus from all over the state have confirmed attendance and depending on the number of apparatus attending, the procession could last until 12:30 p.m.

If you see the procession we ask that you follow normal emergency vehicle procedures, slow down, and “pull to the right for sirens and lights.” Captain Ostergard’s Memorial Service will begin inside the Church at 1:00 p.m. The service will be open to the public. Captain Ostergard lost his life following a medical emergency after responding to a structure fire on Friday, December 14, 2018.
