Westport Winery Garden Resort is adding a disc golf course to its 15-acre display garden. The course will be named in honor of winery team member Toni Ann Dawson’s fiancé Austin “Bubba” Mullikin who was killed in a tragic motorcycle collision last summer.
Bubba was an avid disc golfer, whom, along with his father, Bill, had played courses in seventeen different states. The new disc golf course will be opened on November 10, 2018, which would have been Bubba’s 24th birthday.
The course at the winery will feature “holes” that create tone rather than a basket course. The winery is asking local welders to volunteer their skills in creating unique elements out of used propane tanks or other metals that will become the tone poles that can be mounted on top of wood posts. Those interested can email info@westportwinery.com to get an appointment to pick up a free used propane tank. Each artistic welder will have their name featured on the hole. Propane Etc in Central Park has donated the tanks for this endeavor.
Bill Mullikin will be crafting the seventh hole with Bubba’s favorite color yellow being a key component in both the tone sculpture and a bench. Bill and Toni Ann helped winery co-owner Kim Roberts design the course in the Beauty From Ashes Garden. As a putting course Bill said it will be great for players wanting to improve their short game saying, “You drive for show and putt for dough.”
The course will be free to play. Affordable discs will be available for purchase at the winery. Golfers are welcome to bring their own discs as well. All ages are welcome on the course, however, guests under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Bubba’s family and friends hosted an inaugural disc golf tournament this summer to raise funds in his name for the Trade Technician Scholarship at Aberdeen High School.

In Oregon, Westport Winery Seaside is open daily from 11am to 6pm. Westport Winery TASTING @ Cannon Beach is open Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
Family-friendly Westport Winery Garden Resort is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport.
