The Thurston County Fair was once again a sizzling summer hit in its 147th year with more than 25,000 people having and “Egg-citing”, August 1 through August 5. The Fair also saw an increase in participation in entries for activities like hobbies, crafts, animals, baking, and beverages.
The 2018 fair showcased all of the traditional fair favorites—animals, agricultural exhibits, sweet treats, and savory snacks. The Live and Local Concert Series were back this year with some new and old performers. And, a great addition to the fair this year was the Reptile Isle, and Eric Haines the One Man band, bringing fresh faces to a community event that reaches back to 1871.
Other 2018 Thurston County Fair Highlights:
- 807 animal entries, up more than 100 from 2017 – growth in poultry department of more than 100 percent
- Market sale raised $115,000
- Volunteer shuttle drivers from North Thurston Public Schools drove more than 1,775 miles carrying 4,716 passengers
- Photography entries up more than 107 from 2017
- Home Arts and the Floral department both held a youth show for the first time
- Sold out vendor spaces
- 30 percent increase on Military day tickets
- County Commissioner’s pancake breakfast served 315 people
